A dangerous tapeworm, Echinococcus multilocularis, has been detected in wild hosts along the U.S. West Coast for the first time, with a significant portion of local coyotes testing positive. This parasite, previously rare in North America, poses a serious health risk to humans and dogs, causing potentially fatal liver disease.
