Supreme Court: Banks cannot blacklist advocates for alleged negligence through IBA caution list; only bar councils can examine professional misconduct

The Supreme Court has held that banks cannot effectively blacklist advocates by including their names in the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) Caution List on allegations of professional negligence, observing that such action falls outside the scope of the Reserve Bank of India’s regulatory framework and intrudes upon the exclusive disciplinary jurisdiction of the Bar Councils.
