Christa Pike, 50, survived a failed lethal injection at Tennessee’s Riverbend Maximum Security Institution on September 30 after officials administered two doses of pentobarbital. Her lawyers said she remained alive with a heartbeat before being taken to hospital. Pike was sentenced to death for the 1995 murder of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer. Following the failed execution, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee halted all remaining executions for 2026 and ordered an independent investigation into the procedure.
