A 1920-era American elm survived a 4,000-pound bomb in Oklahoma City

An American elm in Oklahoma City known as the Survivor Tree has observed many changes since its likely planting in 1920. The tree was growing in a family backyard before commercial development removed surrounding trees and structures. In 1995, the elm endured significant damage from the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building while remaining standing.
