Mark Zuckerberg’s nonprofit Biohub aims to prevent and cure diseases through virtual cells; gets millions from Google and US government; AI datasets may allow researchers to ‘ask, predict, and answer biological questions digitally’

Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan’s nonprofit Biohub has secured fresh funding from Google DeepMind, Meta, Isomorphic Labs and the US government to build a “virtual cell”, an AI model that predicts how human cells respond to disease and treatment. Total investment in the Virtual Biology Initiative now stands at $1.8 billion. Biohub expects its first open dataset in about a year, with accurate predictive models within the next five years.
