Assam cabinet OKs polygamy prohibition Bill; jail up to 7 yrs

Assam’s cabinet has approved a bill to prohibit polygamy, with penalties of up to seven years rigorous imprisonment, though exemptions apply to tribal communities and certain Sixth Schedule areas. The government also approved a state-of-the-art Judicial Township and a new Gauhati High Court building, alongside a reward for cricketer Uma Chetry.
