Russia offers one-day ceasefire if Kyiv holds elections, rejects 60-day truce bid

Russia announced a one-day ceasefire to allow presidential elections in Ukraine, rejecting a longer truce proposed by Zelenskyy. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov emphasised the need for an overall peace deal instead of a temporary ceasefire. Zelenskyy suggested a 60-day ceasefire in response to criticism from Donald Trump regarding his leadership. He insisted that the decision about Ukraine’s leadership belongs to its people and not external actors.
