Shigella cases rise in Kerala: Death toll rises to 6, 7 new cases; Nipah situation under control

Kerala reported one more Shigella death and seven new cases on Sunday, bringing the month’s total to six fatalities and 140 infections. Kozhikode, Malappuram, and Wayanad districts are most affected. Health officials emphasize Shigella’s contagious nature, spreading via contaminated sources and poor hygiene, primarily impacting the intestines. Meanwhile, the Nipah situation remains contained with no new suspected cases.
