TIME100AI2026: Meet the IIT Madras graduate named among TIME’s 100 most influential people in AI in 2026: Her work can predict weather thousands of times faster

IIT Madras graduate and Caltech professor Anima Anandkumar has been named among TIME’s 100 most influential people in AI for her work applying artificial intelligence to scientific problems. Her research on Neural Operators has enabled faster modelling of complex physical systems, including weather. FourCastNet, developed with collaborators, can produce global forecasts dramatically faster than conventional methods. Anandkumar has also co-founded Accelerated Understanding, a company developing AI systems to model physical phenomena for applications spanning weather, chip design, robotics and energy.
