A Syrian man received a 26-year sentence in the Netherlands for crimes against humanity, including torture and rape of detainees under Bashar al-Assad’s forces. Convicted for abuses between 2013-2014, the former interrogator inflicted severe physical and psychological suffering. This marks the first Dutch conviction for Assad-era atrocities and sexual violence as a crime against humanity.
