Unmanned helicopters, India’s Varun and now Anduril’s Thunder set to change how we think about drones

Anduril Industries unveiled its autonomous attack rotorcraft Thunder at the Farnborough Airshow. This unmanned system is designed as a drone wingman for current and future attack helicopters. India also advanced its indigenous unmanned systems with the Varun Mk I Naval Shipborne UAS. Both developments highlight how unmanned rotary systems will become central to modern warfare. These systems offer flexibility and reduced risk to human crews in combat.
