‘What I am removing from the lake is like a treasure’: This Srinagar artisan is turning Dal Lake weeds to ‘Grass Mâché’ and creating work for women

Simran Irshad has created an innovative craft called ‘Grass Mâché’, which utilizes vegetation from Dal Lake. This approach not only addresses the rising cost of paper but also promotes environmental sustainability. Irshad aims to empower women by training them in this new technique and facilitating their entry into the craft industry. She has successfully trained about 50 women, with 15 engaged in producing weed-based items.
