A 1975 physics paper had 2 authors, but one was a cat named Chester; here’s why he made it into a scientific journal

In 1975, physicist Jack H. Hetherington found an unusual solution when a journal objected to his use of “we” in a single-author paper. Rather than rewrite the typed manuscript, he added his Siamese cat Chester as a co-author under the name F.D.C. Willard. The physics paper on helium-3 was published in Physical Review Letters, making Chester an unlikely figure in scientific history. He later appeared as the sole author of another article in 1980.
