Canadian pipeline firm to pay $26.9 million over major Kansas oil spill

The Keystone Pipeline operator agreed to a $26.9 million civil penalty with the US government. This settlement resolves allegations of violating federal and state clean water laws after a major spill. The company will also invest approximately $40 million in enhanced pipeline safety measures. Over 12,000 miles of pipeline inspections have been completed since the incident. The spill caused significant environmental damage to Mill Creek and its floodplain.
