Concerned by the plight of many former dancers who are struggling to survive, some even working as rickshaw drivers and domestic workers, dancer-turned-entrepreneur Raj Surani has launched Nritya Seva, a welfare initiative for senior dancers. As part of the effort, a two-day charity cricket tournament on August 5 and 6 will bring together leading choreographers, including Remo D’Souza, Bosco-Caesar and Terence Lewis. The initiative will also award a one-bedroom home in Palghar to a financially distressed woman dancer through a lucky draw. Surani hopes to create a long-term support system focused on financial aid, medical assistance and awareness.
