A student’s simple coding solution to a computer issue transformed photography and graphic design. Thomas Knoll’s program, initially named Display, evolved into Photoshop. His brother John recognised its potential, leading to a collaboration. This software offered a new, accessible way to edit images. A demonstration convinced Silicon Valley executives to launch Photoshop in 1990.
