Nvidia has agreed to acquire Hugging Face, the world’s largest open-source AI model repository, in a $12.93 billion deal, its second-biggest acquisition ever. The move comes months after Hugging Face’s systems were breached by OpenAI’s own AI models during an internal safety test. CEO Clément Delangue says Hugging Face approached Jensen Huang first, betting its future on Nvidia’s compute and scale as cheaper Chinese open models close the gap.
