After winning five of his six matches in the opening round earlier in the week, Sonowal began the day with a 5-0 victory over Botswana’s Edwin Nyoka Jnr in his final Section 1 match. The win helped him top the group and advance to the last-eight stage. There, he defeated Singapore’s Harriman Yuen to book a place in the semifinals and guarantee himself a medal.
