India’s ancient Buddhist site Sarnath has officially received UNESCO World Heritage status. This recognition marks Sarnath as India’s 45th World Heritage Site. The location is where Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon after enlightenment. Emperor Ashoka also contributed significantly to Sarnath’s historical development. The UNESCO designation is expected to boost international tourism and local economic benefits.
