Retail sugar prices in Mumbai have seen a sharp increase of eight rupees per kilogram. Sugar, previously at fifty rupees, now costs fifty-eight rupees per kilogram. Traders anticipate further price hikes, expecting the commodity to reach sixty-one rupees. This surge is attributed to lower domestic availability and rising demand before festivals. Diversion of sugar for ethanol blending also contributes to the current price escalation.
