‘Zombie’ deer spotted in Ohio, US: All about the condition seen in deer family; can it spread to humans?

Ohio hunters have discovered 24 white-tailed deer infected with Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD), also known as ‘zombie disease’, across five counties. The disease, caused by misfolded prions, results in severe brain damage and is fatal. While humans have not been affected, experts advise against consuming meat from infected deer, with research indicating a substantial resistance to CWD transmission in humans.
